The Carnival of Badajoz is one of the best, most popular, and most attended carnivals in Spain. It has been declared a "Festival of International Tourist Interest" by the State Secretariat for Tourism.
With over 40 years of history, it is one of the most visited carnivals, both in Spain and worldwide.

The Badajoz Carnival is one of Spain's most vibrant celebrations, having been designated a Festival of International Tourist Interest. Although the city lives the Carnival intensely for ten days, the Grand Sunday Parade is the absolute heart of the event.
The Grand Sunday Parade is an elite competition between the so-called Comparsas (carnival groups), where rigor and creativity are taken to the extreme.
Each group presents a unique theme. The magic lies in the combination of three elements: the monumental handmade costumes, with an impressive wealth of detail, using materials ranging from feathers and silks to complex structures; the choreography – unlike other carnivals, here the groups dance in perfect synchronicity for kilometers; and the music, where each comparsa has its own percussion band (drums, snare drums, bass drums), creating a contagious rhythm that makes the streets tremble.
Closing the parade are the "Artefacts" – monumental and bizarre vehicles, veritable mobile stages full of animation and satire.
Besides the parade, the Badajoz Carnival is famous for its "Street Carnival". The Murgas are satirical groups that sing humorous lyrics about current political and social events in bars and stages scattered throughout the city.
