January on the island of São Tomé and Príncipe offers a warm and unique equatorial experience, coinciding with the so-called "gravanita," a short, drier season that interrupts the rainy season. During this period, the climate is hot and humid, with daytime temperatures around 27ºC to 28ºC and equally mild nights. Although the humidity is high – making the temperature feel hotter and more stifling – the reduction in heavy rainfall makes the days more suitable for exploring the beaches and forests, with seawater reaching temperatures around 28ºC, ideal for diving and hot swims.

Ilhéu das Rolas is more than just a paradise destination; it's a unique geographical experience in the world. This small volcanic island, located south of São Tomé Island, is famous for being at the center of the world. It's here that the Equator crosses, marked by a geodetic monument where visitors can literally stand with one foot in each hemisphere. Besides the famous Equator marker, Ilhéu das Rolas is a haven for paradisiacal beaches, such as Praia Bateria.
Príncipe Island is the smallest and northernmost of the islands, a true ecological sanctuary and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. With its secluded, untouched beaches and imposing volcanic peaks, such as the impressive Boné do Jóquei, Príncipe is the ideal location for sustainable tourism. The coastline is dotted with secluded bays and dreamy beaches. The famous Banana Beach is a must-see postcard image, and Baía das Agulhas is a natural wonder to be admired. Beaches like Praia Grande are crucial for the nesting and hatching of sea turtles.
