In late May, northern Italy experiences one of the most pleasant times of the year, characterized by a mild spring climate and noticeably longer days. In the cities and lake region, daytime temperatures are very inviting, generally ranging between 18°C and 25°C, ideal for exploring Venice or Milan without the oppressive summer heat. However, in the Dolomites and at higher altitudes, the air remains cool, and it is common to still find traces of snow on the highest peaks. Although the sun shines frequently, May is a transitional month, maintaining the lushly green and flowery landscapes.

This journey through northern Italy is a deep immersion into the historical sophistication and scenic rawness of the Italian Alps. In the heart of Venice, we can visit St. Mark's Basilica, an Italo-Byzantine masterpiece with incredible golden mosaics, observe the grandeur of St. Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace, and the treasures of Tintoretto in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, which contrast with the serenity of a gondola ride through the city's canals.
This monumental heritage extends to Milan, the fashion capital, dominated by the Cathedral. Climbing to the terrace allows you to walk among marble pinnacles. The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is the city's grand hall. In Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet, in addition to the famous Juliet's House, the Arena (outdoors) and the viewpoint of Castel San Pietro are must-sees. Padua, in turn, is a pilgrimage destination for the Basilica of St. Anthony, with an impressive mix of architectural styles. The Madonna della Corona Sanctuary seems to float on a mountainside, while the Sacro Monte di Varese offers a unique devotional path with views over Lombardy.
The transition to nature reveals the country's most dramatic face in the Dolomites. Between the sharp peaks of Tre Cime di Lavaredo – the symbol of the Dolomites – and the iconic cable cars of Seceda and Sass Pordoi – which provide 360° views at almost 3,000m altitude – the scenery is punctuated by crystal-clear lakes, such as the famous Braies and Misurina. Hiking through mountain passes, such as the Giau or the Gardena, offers a unique perspective on the verticality of this mountain range, culminating in the alpine elegance of Cortina d'Ampezzo and sanctuaries carved into the rock, such as the Madonna della Corona.
In the Great Lakes region, we observe everything from the luxury of the lakes to the ruggedness of the mountains. On Lake Como, the aristocratic villas of Balbianello and Monastero enchant with their botanical gardens, while Lake Maggiore stands out for the Baroque splendor of the Borromean Islands. The diversity is absolute: from the lively port towns of Limone and Sirmione on Lake Garda to the mysticism of the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, each stop combines the serenity of the waters with the mastery of Italian architecture.
