BOAT TRIP ON THE TAGUS RIVER

Boat trips are the best way to experience the Tagus River ecosystem up close and the natural beauty surrounding the Salvaterra de Magos region.

The route allows you to explore the river's nooks and crannies, providing direct observation of a high density of aquatic birds and, often, horses roaming freely along the banks.

DESCRIPTION
FIND OUT WHAT THIS TRIP CONSISTS OF

Royal Falconry

The Royal Falconry is the cultural landmark of Salvaterra de Magos, whose art of falconry is classified as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The historic building has been restored and functions as a museum dedicated to the history of this ancient practice. The visit usually begins with a film screening, followed by contact with the birds and a permanent exhibition. Visitors can see various species of birds of prey such as falcons, eagles, and hawks.

Magos Dam Swing

The Magos Dam Swing is a more recent attraction, focused on leisure and the scenic surroundings of the dam's reservoir, located in the transition to the municipality's forest area. Installed near the water, it offers a tranquil and scenic stop for photographs, ideal for those who appreciate nature tourism.

Escaroupim and the River Museum

Located in the emblematic fishing village of Escaroupim, the Escaroupim and the River Museum is a museum space deeply connected to local identity and the Tagus River. This work is dedicated to the river and its tributaries as centers of human settlement, addressing traditional socioeconomic activities and the richness of the riverside fauna and flora.

Typical Avieira House

The Typical Avieira House represents a living example of vernacular architecture and the social history of the Avieira village of Escaroupim. These are small dwellings built of wood and set on pillars (stakes) to protect families and their belongings from the frequent floods of the Tagus River. Usually painted in vibrant colors, these houses portray the humble but resilient daily life of the Avieira fishermen.
